Hobbits AREN'T people, too.

If you ever thought that the BBC didn't report important news, think again.
And by the way, I knew that hobbits weren't people all along but rather a halfling species. Yes, Tolkein got it right, thank you very much!

I saw a post about this fairly recently (aka. less than a year ago). I found their debate about brain size to be silly. Children have quite small brains, and yet they are much more intelligent than many adults. Women have smaller brains, but are at least equal in intelligence and problem solving skills. You could say the same of any smaller human. I don't think its the brain size that matters so much as the brain to body ratio, and the structure of said brain. They found multpiple specimens in this dig, therefore it is reasonable to assume that it was not one deformed person, but a whole species or race of human like creatures that really did exist at one time. And since it is so recent (less than 30,000 years ago) they have a chance to find genetic material. Then they could map their DNA like they did with Neanderthals and see how different and similar to us they really are.
